Get out running with your dog
Many of us want to get a bit fitter, and what better way to do so than with your best friend trotting along at your side? But if you are thinking of running with your pet pooch, there are a few things you need to do to make sure that you are both getting the most out of it and enjoying your run. Speaking to Metro, Pure Gym Running Coach and Personal Trainer Ian Scarrott, explained why running with your dog is such a great idea “Like anything in life, exercise can become monotonous, so it is important to try new routes, vary...
Why does your pet pooch make puppy-dog eyes?
Last month we talked about the various reasons that your dog might stare at you, so this month we were fascinated to discover an article about why your dog might make ‘puppy-dog eyes’ at you and what they are really trying to tell you when they do it! According to Professor Anne Burrows from Duquesne University our dogs are much more expressive nowadays than they would have been when they were still living in the wild and it is all down to their domestication and interaction with us humans. Her research has revealed that dogs have gradually evolved to give us...
How your dog sleeps can tell you what they’re feeling
According to a recent article in the Mirror, how your dog sleeps can tell you a lot about how they are feeling whilst also giving us an insight into how they have evolved from wild wolves to man’s best friend. Expert Lynne Fisher suggests that dogs have five main sleeping positions and they can all tell us something about how they are feeling. 1. Stretched right out This is probably the most common dog sleeping position and according to Lynne, it shows that your dog completely trusts you as they are leaving their belly exposed. Your dog may lie on...
Helping your dog to cope with their seasonal allergies
Whilst most of us may all love the warmer weather and the sight of everything coming into bloom, for some people it means the onset of seasonal allergies caused by a rise in pollen from flowers, trees and grass – and just like humans, our dogs can get seasonal allergies too. Although they might not react in the same way, they are generally triggered by the same allergens as we are. So how do you know if your pooch is having an allergic reaction, and how can you help them through it? Flower dog photo by Celine Sayuri Tagami on Unsplash...
Cat and dog years – have you been getting it wrong?
Does your pet act their age? We often talk about our pets’ age in terms of 'cat and dog years', but a study by researchers at the University of California has revealed that we may have been getting it wrong and using a flawed formula to calculate our pet’s ‘age’ in comparison to their human counterparts. As cats and dogs live for around 12 years (often much longer depending on the breed), we tend to work out their age by multiplying their actual age by 7. So a 1 year old pup (or kitty) is like a 7-year-old human and...
