Cats vs dogs - How people are choosing cute kitties instead of puppies post lockdown
As we’ve talked about before on this blog, during lockdown, puppy sales were booming as many of us in the UK sought a distraction or company during these uncertain times. Unfortunately animal shelters are now seeing an influx of unwanted pups as impulsive owners head back to work, realising that a dog is too much of a commitment – and new figures revealed by pet sale website, Pets4Homes suggest that people now prefer cats! Returning to the office - are you taking your dog?
As we begin to return to the office, some pet owners are planning on taking their pets with them to the office as they aren’t sure how to go about leaving them on their own. As we've discussed previously on the blog, a lot of people bought new pets in the pandemic, with pet ownership in the UK rising from 41% of households to 59% in just one year – there are now 12 million dogs in the UK and now it seems that office pets are going to become the latest element of the 'new normal' as they enter our post-lockdown...
Some of the rarest native UK dog breeds and why you should consider getting one.
A couple of weeks ago we looked at the most popular pedigree dog breeds in the UK and in that article we also looked at the 10 'least popular' pedigree breeds – the ones that are top of the Kennel Club’s ‘Vulnerable’ list of native breeds – according to the number of births registered last year – which are in danger of disappearing. The top ten contains some pretty obscure breeds (and they’re also so rare we can’t find any free to use photos of them!) but just outside the top ten you will also find some of the UK's...
What breed of dog should you get if you like long walks?
Continuing our look at dog breeds, this week we’re looking at the best breeds to get if you like long walks. Over the last year, more people have been buying dogs and they have also been appreciating the great outdoors a lot more – there has been a surge in people relocating to the country or searching for property close to parks and open spaces or with larger gardens and some people have been combining the two by getting a dog and getting outdoors more! But not all breeds are up to the challenge. So this week we’re going to...
Popular pedigree dog breeds - is your pup top of the list?
As we’ve talked about a few times over the last year, there has been a huge increase in people getting dogs in the UK during the pandemic, but despite this some breeds have become very rare. Recent research from Millets has revealed that some types of pup are in danger of disappearing all together. The findings are based on figures from the Kennel Club who only register pedigree dogs, so it does not include any of the popular mixed breeds such as cockapoos or labradoodles, or well-bred pups that are not registered - but it does give a good idea as to...
